I have a 10 gallon pot that doesn't have a spigot. I typically use pellet hops, and I'm getting tired of dealing with the green mess.

What do you guys do to keep the green slime from getting into the fermenter?

--I have used a muslin bag, no objection to using them, other than a concern over utilization issues.

--I tried a funnel with a screen, but it just kept getting clogged.

--I haven't tried whirlpooling after I chill with the IC yet.

Any suggestions? Is whirlpooling really as easy as getting a good vortex going, then covering and waiting 20 minutes?

When I dry hop I hang a reuseable nylon grain bag in keg to catch hops carried thru the siphon hose. Sanitize it with idophor. Lots of surface area.....

Either whirlpool and let set for 15-20 minutes and then siphon from the side or use hop bags. There will be a small utilization decrease with the hop bags but it is probably the easiest way to eliminate the hops from getting into the fermenter.

I whirlpooled with good results but I like using the hop bags now. Buy several so you can use one for each timed hop addition. Three is the most I have needed.
