If i am in the market for a refractometer, how is this for a good model (trying to make sure i am looking at the right thing, not just best price)

We talked about this about a month ago. Here is the link:

That model is ok. One thing it does not have is ATC (Automatic Temperature Compensation) which is not really a big deal but nice to have. Without the ATC you need to let the few drops of wort cool before you get a good reading, which is not too much time.

I am also getting a new hydrometer at lunch, since i cannot find mine. I am afraid that i underpitched my Sasion on Saturday. When i opened my vial of White Labs Yeast, it had the shaken soda effect, and I lost about 1/4 of it.

I had vigerous airlock activity by sunday morning, and it slowed to an almost complete stop by Tuesday morning. I am going to need to take a gravity reading, and see where I am, and concider re-pitching.

If i have to repitch, should I also airate? I am planning on making a starter for the repitch, and using half of it for this, and the other half for a hard cider that I would start at the same time.

That is all you need, its a good price. I would not worry over putting more money into another Hydrometer. that yeast can be a little funny, rock your carboy to re-suspend. As soon as you get your refractometer in then put the numbers in promash using the little refractometer button. 16.5 was the SG then put in what you read and it will calculate for you. if you don't have promash, give me a hollar and I will do it for you. Even if you lost a little of the yeast, it will still do its job just may produce a few more esters.

16.5 was the SG

So that is a 1.066.

My new refractometer will be shipping from canada, so it may bee a week or more before it arrives. I will give my ale pail a little movement to get it going again... I think I will plan on doing starters from here on though, from what I have recently heard/read it is a win-win!

I just downloaded the Pro Mash software. It seems much more simple to use than Beer Tools that I had recently gotten. I think I might make the switch.

I like it, double check the styles and see if they match bjcp.org
Mine did not so I updated the table, if yours does not, let me know and I will email it so you do not have to do the leg work
