Following Vicki's hint in another thread...

I am looking for a 1 degree F electronic recording thermometer (temp probe).

Awhile back there was a post for a $35 gadget which was USB attached, but had 1.5 degree C accuracy. To record and reproduce, I think I need better accuracy. I would like to cover both mash and ferment temperature ranges.

What you are looking for is a data logging thermometer. For the cost you are probably better off just keeping a written log.

This is the cheapest one that I have seen, is has 0.1° resolution with ±0.9°F (±0.5°C) accuracy

Thanks Mark!

I had found one similar from vernier, but it melts in the mash tun (150 degree limit).

We use a number of them here at work, submerged as well as imbedded in concrete. Ours are programmable for how often you want them to record, a slot for a data card to expand memory capabilities, and accurate within a degree at very high and low temperatures...the downside is they run $299.00 and greater and must be sent in for calibration every so many years. For what you're looking for, I kind of lean to agreeing that you're better off pencil/paper logging it vs the high prices.

Now, with that said, if you *do* find one that does what you're looking for and within your price range, I would be very excited to hear about it!

I am going to order the probe Mark mentioned. Logging the USB data will be easy for me. The trouble I have with paper logging is I am not around enough to gather the data. I can not get to the fermentor each hour or two. By the time I get home I'll probably miss the time when potential overtemp occurs.
