I have 50' of 3/8" Copper Tubing and I need 50' of 1/2" ID copper tubing-Anyone want to trade? I'll throw in something extra to make up the cost difference

The 3/8" is perfect for making a CFC

Cheers,

Jay

you scrap the idea of making a CFC, and decide to make an IC instead?

Yep-We decided this one better fits our setup:

I realize I could whirlpool with a CFC, but this gives the added advantage of helping to trap Trub/Coldbreak inside the coils.

Still looking for a pump, etc

The rig's almost finished, can't wait to get it up and running

I have seen people put their IC inside a grainbag as well, and drain through an autosiphon after it is chilled.

Spot-On advise. I brewed 11 gal. this morning, pumped the wort with the valve fully-opened from the boil kettle thru the CFC (counterflow with tap water), and then run through a 1/2 X 25' coil submersed in a 5 gal. cooler with 2 bags of ice and a little water. From flame-off to filled fermenters of 58oF cooled wort was less than 10 min.

I NEVER have a problem getting wort to the right temp with this approach, and it really helps me close out the brew day quickly.

Try doing a test run with just water... this will give you some experience with how your new chiller works against your target volume, and will also sort out any issues that develop (i.e. leaky fittings, etc.).

Better to trash a batch of water than brew!

Good luck, keep us posted how it works out.

very true; it's a felony to waste beer. i'll burn some water tomorrow and see how long just water takes. i already ran water through it, and no leaks ( and it's a style i might be able to turn into a whirlpool chiller )

Was his name David? If so I called and talked to him Friday morning. Thought I had it locked up, but he never called me back when he got done running his errand. That was a heck of a deal.

used the 50' ic yesterday on a 10g kolsch brew. it was down to 88 degrees about 15 or so minutes later using regular outside faucet water; no leaks or any other problems. used the hot runoff to soak the foundations of my house, so got double use
