Russian Imperial Stout

5Gal, 1.118 OG 1.031 FG

5# Pale Malt - Belgium
5# Pale Malt - UK
1# Pale Malt - US
1.5# Roasted Barley
1.5# Chocolate
1# Biscuit
1# Wheat
1# Munich
1# Flaked Oats
.5# CaraMunich
.5# Black Patent
.5# Special B
2# Muntons DME - Light

Mash at 155 degrees, 60 mins, boil 90 mins

2 oz Centennial 8.4AA 60 mins
2 oz Perle 6.7 AA 60 mins
2 oz Fuggle 4.9 AA 60 mins
1 oz Willamette 4.4 AA 10 mins
.25 oz Northern Brewer 9AA at knockout

Yeast: WLP002 English Ale

Judge's comments:

National judge - "An exceptional example of a Russian Imp. Stout. Flavor is rich, intense, complex and well balanced. Full body, but well attenuated. A really fine beer."

And wow, 1.118 OG! That's pretty heavy duty, alright.

What do you mean by "flaked oats"?

Is this oatmeal? Flaked Barley?

Flaked Oat is Oatmeal basically.

If you buy it from the homebrew shop it will be called Flaked Oats. You can sub Quaker Oatmeal, but make sure you get the Quick Oats.
